Mom went to the doctor early that morning for blood work. A nurse from the doctor's office called late that afternoon to confirm that she was pregnant. She also let her know that her progesterone level was lower than it should be for someone who was six or seven weeks pregnant. She said that we would definitely need to come see the doctor during the next week.

Mom started feeling bad that morning and her body started telling her that something wasn't right. She left work at lunch time and came home to rest.

Mom still wasn't feeling well and had a suspicion that you weren't doing very well. She called the doctor and called some friends to ask for advice. Everyone said that she needed to rest and get to the doctor as soon as possible on Monday. We were more than a little worried. We were praying for the best, but we had begun to convince ourselves that something bad was happening. It was turning into a very long weekend.

The beginning of a new month and the coming realization that our lives were about to change. We called the doctor as soon as we woke up and made an appointment for 9:00. When we arrived at the office, the nurses asked a lot of questions and didn't give us a lot of hope that everything was okay. When the doctor saw us, she said that she wanted to do a sonogram to see what was happening with you. In what I could only describe as the longest 30 seconds of my life, we waited on the doctor to find you. When she did, it looked as if something was moving and she quickly exclaimed, "Heartbeat!" She flipped a switch on the machine and we instantly heard your racing heart echo in the room. To say that my heart leaped from my chest is an understatement. Mom and I cried just a little when we realized that our little miracle that we had spent so much time asking God to bring into our lives was alive and well!
The next few months were a whirlwind of activity for us. We were faced with many appointments with doctors and, for six weeks, I had to give Mom a shot every night to help get her hormone levels back where they were supposed to be.
On April 8th, we had our first 3d sonogram. This was really cool because were able to see what you looked like in great detail. We even had this really neat picture of your face.
Even though it was way too early, we thought we saw a few signs that you were going to be a boy. Early on we always felt like you were a girl, but something about the pictures told us you were a boy. Mom said that your hairline looked just like mine (I'm not so sure that's a good thing). We would learn in the next month that all of this goofy speculation was just that.
On May 13th, the doctor told us that she could tell with a lot of certainty whether you were a boy or a girl. Instead of finding out then, we had the doctor write it down on the pictures and put it in a sealed envelope. We planned a big party for May 29th for some of our friends and family where we would all find out together. It was hard to hold onto that envelope for more than two weeks. It was so bad that I had to hide it from Mom so that she wouldn't be tempted to take an early peek. We couldn't wait to find out whether it would be Pink or Blue!
